Save-the-date cards are fairly new to weddings. The idea to let your guests know pretty far in advance about your wedding, is a great idea! This enables them to reserve the spot on their calendars just for you. Your out-of-town guests will have ample time to make travel arrangements, often saving them money on air fares and hotel accommodations.
Use your creativity, when designing your save-the-date cards. Let your personality come through. Your guests will enjoy seeing something a little different. They aren’t up on the latest and greatest wedding ideas, so you can knock their socks off with your announcement.

I think Save The Date cards are creative great marketing. I would, however, caution, folks to always write out the phrase especially if online because the search engines will pick up the STD which is an active health related phrase that folks getting married I am sure would not want. In public health circles STD’s are short for sexually transmitted diseases.
Please keep this unique approach to promoting weddings going until it is simply a natural part of the planning for every soon to be married couple.

I was just thinking perhaps we could use PSTD which would be Please Save The Date. What do you think?

I absolutely LOVE your examples of “save the date” announcements! You’re right–using creativity, originality and a bit of humor add so much. It’s always a thoughtful gesture to let your guests know when and where you’ll be getting married in advance, but when you add a bit of pizzaz, that will really make them light up. Great ideas!!

I didn’t realize “Save the Date” was fairly new to weddings. When two of my girlfriends announced their engagements more than 20 years ago, they did it by sending out “Save the Date” announcements which announced their engagement and wedding all at once.
It is a wonderful idea to use for any occasion and sending them out early gives folks ample opportunity to make plans to be a part of the special occasion.
