I don't know if wedding planners are as big in Australia. I don't know anyone who has used one but they probably do exist. I know we put a lot of effort to help our daughters with their wedding plans and it would have been good if there was someone to turn to.

Having gone both ways, hiring someone is much less stress. Leaves you free to focus on your guests, wedding. I designed my daughter's dress and everything. (Turned out great but the little buttons down the back popped open during bridal shots, had to fix for wedding). If you do it yourself, it will take as least 3 times as much time and money to get all the details right as you imagine.

Both times we had professional photographers and I can take great photos, but not do that and focus on the wedding. Better results too with the professionals too.

I tried to coordinate my first wedding in Ohio from Massachusetts. It was CRAZY! My photographer who lived in another city two hours away was a good friend who said he would come and take pictures for FREE. That should've been a clue that he wouldn't show up--and he didn't. My bridesmaids were in three different states and ended up with three different styles of bridesmaids dresses--although I must say they turned out very beautiful.

Ironically, when Nate and I got married and there was just us, and our witnesses, I did have a bridal coordinator--and she was FABULOUS! :)

Great article. I went with gold for my wedding dress. White did not suit me at all. I saw a dress in the store and my first thought was, "What an odd color!" It looked very yellow on the hanger. I would never have tried it on, were it not for the fact that I saw a picture hanging on the wall, and lo and behold, it was the same dress. The minute I tried it on, I knew it was the one. I felt like a medieval princess.

Takes me back to my own wedding! When we got to the chapel, we discovered the best man had not arrived. We were both in the military stationed overseas at the time and he was getting ready to deploy. This was a second marriage for both of us, so we weren't interested in all the hooplah! We just wanted to be married before he left so this wedding was done on very short notice. So short in fact, that without the best man, we did not have the required number of witnesses (two). In desperation, I went outside and saw a fellow sailor walking by. I stopped him, explained our situation, and asked him if he would be "best man." He looked at me like I was insane, but agreed.
What makes the story even better is that after the wedding, he invited me and Dearl to dinner. While we were talking, I decided it would be nice to know the name of the gentleman who saved our wedding day. When he told me I looked at him in amazement and and asked if he had a sister named Lia. He said yes and I burst out laughing. I told him that his sister had been a bridesmaid at my first wedding! Looks like I have my own wedding tradition. I can't get married without a member of their family in my wedding party!

I actually saw the 4th video a few years back when it was making the internet rounds. Something similar happened to the daughter of a friend of mine. When she got married at our church about five years ago, the groom kept yelling "Thank you Jesus!" and then ran around the church shouting and crying--BEFORE the minister pronounced them man and wife. It delayed the end of the ceremony by at least 30 minutes because then other people started getting out of their seats and shouting. It was like a Sunday service so I didn't go to church the next day :)
